2024 Brother Schools XC Launched

The 2024 edition of the Brother Schools Cross Country was launched by Clonliffe Harriers today, September 2nd. The event will take place in Trinity Sports Grounds on Santry Avenue on Wednesday, October 2. Once again there is a primary school and secondary school programme. There will be a total of 6 races for primary schools boys and girls, for 4th class, 5th class and 6 class.  The secondary school programme, again for boys and girls, is for minor, junior, intermediate and senior. A card therefore of 14 races.

Speaking at the launch Mr Tony Jackson, the CEO of Brother Ireland said: 'Brother are delighted to support the Brother Schools Cross Country races for the 15th year. Since we commenced our partnership with Clonliffe Harriers on this venture back in 2009 we have been delighted to see the growth in the event with the numbers rising steadily from 700 back in 2009 to the best part of 2000 in 2023. We are proud to support the athletics community with our neighbours in Santry, Clonliffe Harriers, providing opportunities to young school athletes from Dublin and beyond to take part in such an exciting event."

The event director Noel Guiden of Clonliffe Harriers said: ‘we are extremely grateful to Brother for their unwavering support of this event, the event was revised in 2009 and Brother have been “at our side” ever since. The emphasis of the Brother Schools Cross Country is on participation and enjoyment, we want to see as many young athletes taking part in October as possible. Having said that it is noteworthy that several of Ireland’s Paris Olympians have competed in past editions of the Brother Schools Cross Country including Sarah Healy, Jodie McCann, Brian Fay and Clonliffe’s own Cathal Doyle. Who knows maybe in a few weeks time we will spot another potential Olympian or two!’
